Let the tree and mug space have different jobs

The tree sits beside a contrasting area for the mug, creating a small horizontal composition. Keep the tree outline distinct from its background. A very busy fabric in both areas can make the small silhouette difficult to recognize.

The nominal design is 12 by 9 inches. Check that this target suits the mug and table space you intend to use, while remembering that finishing and quilting can affect the actual result. The illustration is a design concept rather than a measured sample.

Read the turned-edge finish before assembly

This edition uses a turned-edge finish. Do not assume that instructions from a separately bound mug rug apply to it. Read the layering, opening, turning and closing sequence in the PDF before placing the final layers together.

Keep the seam allowances and opening clearly marked during a practice assembly. A mug rug is not automatically a heat-proof potholder: use it for its intended table purpose and do not assume that ordinary quilt batting protects hands from hot cookware.

These notes help you evaluate colors, scale and preparation. They do not replace a complete cutting list or row-by-row recipe.
